“Ashwagandha has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine to increase energy, improve overall health and reduce inflammation, pain and anxiety,” said Dr. Yufang Lin of Cleveland Clinic Center for Integration Medicine, in an interview.
What are the benefits of ashwagandha?
Most buzz about Ashwagandha focus on its potential to reduce stress and anxiety.
When your body is stressed, it activates the response of war or flight, causing your heartbeat to increase, blood pressure increases, rapid breathing, muscle tension and an increase in stress hormones such as cortisol.
An increasing organ of the research suggests that ancient herb can help regulate this response to stress, especially by normalizing cortisol levels.
For example, a 2021 analysis of the seven studies found that Ashwagandha significantly reduced the level of stress and anxiety, while also improved sleep quality and fatigue compared to a placebo.
