They are a recipe for an abdominal apocalypse.
While food poisoning can have many springs, certain foods can make meal time look like the bowel roulette is playing.
A new study by Consumer Reports has named the 10 most dangerous foods in the US based on their memories and the record record to make people sick.
Cru specifically examined the number of diseases and deaths born of food in 2024, the spread of explosions and food.
The data were derived from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration and Department of Agriculture.
The stomach ignition ratio comes after a 41% increase in memories of food due to “possible pollution with Salmonella, E. Coli and Listeria in 2024 compared to a year ago,” CR reported. Meanwhile, confirmed cases of food -born disease increased by 20 percent, while associated hospitals and deaths more than double the same time last year.
Without further ado, here are the ten most dangerous foods when it comes to food -born disease.
Beef
At the top of the food poisoning pyramid was Deli meat, which resulted in 165 diseases and 87 hospitalizations due to Listeria. This innocent sandwich element makes constant appearance on CR lists due to frequent treatment and the fact that listeria bacteria are often found in processing plants and Deli counters.
The cause of this year was the blast of the pig’s head during the summer. Between May and mid -September 2024, ten people died and over 61 became ill in 19 countries after eating Boar’s heads of Listeria, including the liver, during the largest eruption of food disease in 2024.
As a result, “the company remembered 7 million pounds of cold cuts of all kinds and announced it would no longer make Liverwurst,“ for CR.
James E. Rogers, PhD, director and chief of product and food safety testing in consumer reports, said people can mitigate the risk of pollution by warming the Deli meat until it is “hot tube” and using cold packaged cuts, which are generally less treated.
Cucumber
Cucumbers can put someone’s stomach in a pickle. According to CR, Salmonella found in the Torpedo with healthy appearance was responsible for over 664 reported diseases and 173 reported in hospital in 2024. Fortunately, no deaths were reported.
The explosions were linked to both whole cucumbers in supermarkets and cut vegetables used in prepared salads sold to the main US nutrients.
CR recommends that people “choose fruits and vegetables that are without bruising or damaged skin because bacteria can get more easily access those areas.”
“Washing and peel can reduce the bacteria, but it doesn’t remove it all,” they write.
Raw milk, raw cheese
Raw milk and raw cheese make the pantheon of food poisoning with over 182 diseases and 29 hospitalization due to E. coli and salmonella collectively. The culprits were unclean milk products not cleaned of raw farms, which resulted in an explosion due to salmonella in milk and cream, and another caused by E. coli in raw cedar cheese.
CR advises people to refrain from eating raw cheese and also aging raw cheese for 60 days before being sold to destroy harmful bacteria in accordance with FDA instructions. Although, as last year’s explosion confirms, these precautions are not foolish.
Cotija and Fresco Questions
Soft cheeses are another breeding soil for listeria due to their high water content and low acidity. Last year, products were linked to 26 reported diseases and 23 reported hospitals. CR advised to avoid these dairy products to curb the chances of contracting a food -born disease.
egg
Your portfolio is not the only thing that pays the price for eggs. Salmonella in bird embryos was responsible for 93 diseases and 34 hospitalizations last year. To protect yourself, CR advises to lay eggs with broken shells, wash your hands after treating eggs and cooking eggs until both yellow and white yellow is strong.
Stitching
Last year, there were 104 reports reported and 1 reported death due to E. coli in onions. All victims were reported to have eaten McDonald poundeds containing fresh yellow onions supplied by Taylor Farms, which then remembered the affected balls of Burger.
Cr notes that people can minimize the chances of being poisoned at home by purchasing “full, unmarked products” and cutting them on their own. They also recommend discarding the first layers of an entire onion before cut, as the interior is less likely to pollute.
Leafy
Leafy greens may seem synonymous with Popeye -like strength and food, but they can also be the basis of propagation for E. coli.
Cr observed that many of the leafy greens in the US have grown near livestock sources and are therefore sensitive to stain from the runoff.
Last year, there were 117 reported diseases, 36 reported hospitalizations, and a reported death due to E. Coli found in rough leaves.
Cr says people can relieve the risk of disease while eating by avoiding salads or raw greens in sandwiches.
While preparing home food, meanwhile, people can help prevent pollution by “using hydroponic lettuce, which has grown in greenhouses and therefore less likely to be contaminated by animal waste”.
Raw carrots
Raw carrots were responsible for 48 diseases, 20 hospitalizations and one death due to E. Coli poisoning last year. Carrot manufacturer Grimmway Farms issued a whole with organic luggage and carrot carrots cleaned under numerous names as they were associated with pollution in 19 countries.
While washing and peeling can reduce risk, cooking is the only proven thoughtful way to kill all germs, for CR.
Basil
Also sensitive to soil pollution? Organic basil was associated with 36 diseases and 4 hospitalizations about Salmonella last year.
As with carrots, washing and cooking can help protect against poisoning, Rogers advised.
Poultry and cooked meat
Listeria was found in cooked birds and meat products last year, which thankfully resulted in zero diseases, hospitalization and death.
However, CR advised the heating of completely frozen foods before consumption.
Rogers said the ranking is not meant to remove people to eat these foods entirely, but rather to keep a watchful eye.
“Many of these foods are important parts of a healthy diet,” he said. “Our ranking aims to help you understand how to treat them properly, and when to spend some of them in order to stay safe.”
