A widow of the United Kingdom finished Marathon in London as she wore her wedding dress to honor her late husband on their wedding anniversary.
Laura Coleman-day, Xander, man died last year after complications from a transplant he needed after the development of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
She crossed the Marathon Finish line in London this Sunday past to raise money for blood cancer and the charity of source cell research, Anthony Nolan.
Since the race was on the sixth anniversary of the widow’s wedding, the 33-year-old devoted stopped as she ran to finish the last three miles of race in her wedding dress.
“I thought which best way to honor the day and honor it …” Coleman-day told BBC.
“It was absolutely amazing” but very “hot”. “
“Crowds, atmosphere and running with one of the most inspiring people I have ever met,” she told Outlet.
Coleman-day is participating in a challenge to run 13 marathons in a year to help raise money for charity and participation in the latest, let her spend another 26.2 miles race off its list.
The widow led the race along with her friend Kate Walford, who ran to honor the memory of her best friend Mark who died in 2018 after receiving leukemia for the second time.
The duo met through the charity Anthony Nolan in 2023.
“Despite the harsh conditions of heat, we had the most amazing day we met many other inspiring runners,” Coleman-Day said.
“Laura’s watching to open her wedding dress in Mile 23 was such an emotional moment, reminding me what has passed.”
“We crossed the line together and made Xander and Mark proud.”
The rare type of cancer – that her husband had – affects the blood and bone marrow, which accounts for less than 1% of all cancer diagnoses in the US
“They were doing a lot of research after transplanting and I didn’t want anyone else to spend what we and my son have passed,” she said.
