The first woman to run Marathon in London Topless is feeling “all resting and excited” to run it again this weekend.
Louise Butcher, 51, ran for the last time ran 26.2 miles on April 21, 2024 – two years after passing a double mastectomy for breast lobular cancer.
On November 3 last year, she was one of the 250 women who participated in a topless swim, for the charity of Royal Devon hospitals.
Louise is currently undergoing a UK jogging tournament, covering cities like Bath, Cardiff, Devon, London and The Great North Run in Newcastle.
Now she will start at the London Marathon this weekend, raising money for breast cancer charity.
Louise, a charity worker, from Braunton, Devon, said: “This will be my fifth marathon in total, and I have only run marathons for two and a half years now.
“I’m proud of myself and proud of everyone else who is thrown on board to make topless running more normal and something people can connect with.
“I feel good and really strong at the moment.
“I have had no damage and have done strength training for the last three months.
“Totally is completely to care for your body, making sure you are not doing much: it’s not just about running.
“Power is in healing.”
In April 2022, Louise was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer after receiving an ultrasound in her left breast.
The tissue was thickened, and during its first single mastectomy in June 2022, its surgeon discovered a 5 centimeter tumor near the chest wall.
She had her second second mastectomy, to remove her right breast tissue in August 2022.
Although she felt the “oppression” to get a reconstructive operation, Louise decided not to go for it – and says she wanted to fight social norms and feel comfortable on her skin.
She received five rounds of intense radiotherapy – and ran her first, virtual marathon in London after finishing treatment on October 2, 2022.
“I didn’t feel the need to stay with social norms and get a reconstructive operation,” she added.
“I accept the way I am” and it’s something I’ve learned to control, despite what others think. “
The charity volunteer took place practically again, in the London Marathon 2023-and pledged to participate in the future.
On April 21, 2024, Louise became the first woman to run the topless marathon while showing her mastectomy wounds.
This year, it is “beyond excited” to participate in epic candidacy once again.
Louise said: “I am very excited and fired for Sunday!
“I have to direct it to get rid of all the energy I have after I get it slowly these last weeks to prepare!”
As well as wanting to raise awareness of breast lobular cancer, she says she also wanted to promote body positivity and self-acceptance.
“Llots people knew me through Tiktok, so I had many people who cheered me,” Louise said.
“It would be an amazing experience doing it anyway; whether I was topless or not.
“But people saw me topless and they were crying. The women were screaming my name – it was just incredible.
â € œ Cancer cancer surgeons were coming to me and saying it was all amazing.
â € œai just felt like the right thing to do – to go topless at the time.â €
Louise managed to raise $ 4,650 for charity breast cancer now, just participating in the marathon last year.
Now, she is crossing her UK tour – which will include the next Marathon in London, as well as Great West and Great North Runs.
Louise said: “I want to empower people and document my journey to inspire others.
“It is about telling all weaknesses.
“I posted videos at first when I was passing cancer, so people can see the trip and know you can overcome those feelings.
“I think people can be connected because it’s true.
“So good can come out of the negative – it may not be cancer, people go through such trauma in their lives.
“But that doesn’t mean your life is over. You can make things too positive.”
Louise runs around Braunton most days without a top “and is not planning to stop soon.
Louise added: “The whole thing has opened a worm cans to be honest.
“But I wanted this to happen – I wouldn’t start [running topless] Because I thought everyone would like it.
“I was doing it to ignite the change; to make people think of what they told others about their appearances.
“I accept the way I am – that’s the best my body has ever been, sometimes.
“I am stronger I have ever been, and the most beautiful.â €
Louise has been said she will Also be releasing a book this year entitled â â â € ˜going topless, â € ™ which will Document her experience.â
