Cancer ratio reveals new starting data on deaths, diagnoses

Annual Report of Cancer Statistics from the National Institute of Cancer (NCI) – which was published in Cancer Magazine on Monday, April 21 – shows some signs of progress in the war against the disease.

In general, the rates of new cancer diagnoses and cancer -related deaths have declined.

Between 2018 and 2022, the level of cancer death is reduced by 1.7% each year for men and 1.3% for women, the report said.

“The rate of cancer death is falling among men and women because of many factors – including the best examination, early intervention, the most advanced surgical approaches and the best target therapies,” Dr. Marc Siegel, Senior Medical Analyst Fox News, for Fox News Digital.

Smoking -related cancers in particular (lungs, bladder and larynx) saw significant decrease in new cases and deaths, researchers noted, likely prompted by reduced tobacco use and changes in review recommendations.

Deaths in male cancer

For adult males, mortality rates fell by 12 of the most common types of cancer between 2018 and 2022, including prostate, liver and intrahepatic bile duct, esophagus, skin melanoma and renal pelvis, urinary bladder, colon and rectangle, leukemia, myloma, myeloma, myloma, myeloma, myeloma, bonchus.

Lung cancer and bronchus saw the largest decline in deaths, falling by 4.5% each year in that four -year time frame, according to the report.

“This is mainly due to the early and more effective examination, robotic lung surgery (which can take cancer before it escapes the lungs), and more effective in target and immunotherapy when it escapes the lungs,” Siegel said.

The rate of men’s death increased for cancers of the pancreas, bones and joints, oral cavity and pharynx, and non-melanoma skin cancer during this period.

Deaths in cancer in women

Among women, 14 common cancers had lowered death levels, including brain and other nervous system, cervix, soft tissue, including the heart, urinary bladder, kidney and renal pelvis, breast, stomach, leukemia, colon and rectum, myeloma, myeloma, non-lymphom. Bronze, the researchers said.

Deaths for lung and bronchus cancer also did not accept more for women, falling 3.4% a year between 2018 and 2022.

“Since 2021, the rate of death from breast cancer fell 42% from its peak in 1989, thanks to the advances in treatment and review,” the report noted.

The rate of death increased for oral cavity cancers and pharynx, corpus and uterus, and liver and intrahepatic bile duct for women during this time.

Deaths in cancer in young people

Among the children, the level of cancer death fell by 1.5% a year between 2001 and 2022, the data showed.

Among adolescents and young adults (15 to 39 years old), cancer -related mortality decreased by 2.9% per year from 2001 to 2005 and 1% per year from 2005 and 2020.

The death rate did not change for the above group between 2020 and 2022.

New cases of cancer to men

Among men, new cancer diagnoses fell by 1.6% to 2.2% each year between 2001 and 2013.

Among adolescents and young adults (15 to 39 years old), cancer -related mortality decreased by 2.9% per year from 2001 to 2005 and 1% per year from 2005 and 2020. Chinnapong – Stock.adobe.com

These rates remained stable between 2013 and 2021, according to researchers.

Between 2017 and 2021, men’s diagnoses decreased for brain cancer and other nervous system, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, colon and rectum, thyroid, urinary bladder, larynx, and lungs and bronchus.

Lung cancer and bronchus saw the largest decline in cases, falling 3.4% per year.

Six cancers saw an increase in diagnoses. They included the prostate, pancreas, oral cavity and pharynx, kidneys and renal pelvis, myeloma and testis, as listed in the report.

Prostate cancer without the sharpest growth, growing 2.9% per year.

The new cases remained stable for the following types of cancer: stomach, skin melanoma, esophagus, leukemia and liver and intrahepatic bile canal.

New cases of cancer in women

For women, the report noted that new cancer cases increased by 0.3% a year between 2003 and 2021.

Women saw an increase in eight cancers: stomach, liver and intrahepatic bile duct, skin melanoma, breast, myeloma, pancreas, corpus and uterus, and oral cavity and pharynx.

“Lowering fertility levels, advancement of age in the first birth and increases in overweight and alcohol consumption is likely to increase the growth levels of positive estrogen receptor breast cancer,” researchers said.

Researchers also noticed that 16% of all cases of breast cancer could be linked to alcohol.

Regarding the increase in cases and deaths of uterine cancer, researchers cited factors of excessive body weight, physical inactivity, diabetes and early menstruation.

Cases of gastric cancer were the fastest growth in women, increasing 3.2% per year.

“Women have increased levels of new cancer cases in more sites than men,” the authors of the report write. “However, the increase in stomach cancer cases are likely to be related to how certain tumors in the stomach – stromal gastrointestinal tumors, or GIST – are now all classified as malignant.”

“This change happened based on the best understanding of these types of rare tumors and does not reflect a change in the basic burden of cancer.”

The report also noted that new cases of women’s cancers increased in areas associated with excess body weight – including breast, uterus, colon and rectum between adolescents and young adults and pancreas, kidneys and liver among women.

The following cancers decreased among women between 2017 and 2021: brain and other nervous system, cervix and rectum, urinary bladder, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, ovary, thyroid, and lung and bronchi.

Cases of lung cancer and bronchus saw the sharpest decrease in women, falling 2.1% per year.

Kidney and renal pelvis cancer and leukemia remained relatively stable among women.

New cases of cancer to young people

In general, research showed that new cases of child cancer are plunged by 0.8% per year between 2017 and 2021.

The largest decline was seen on the scale of the new brain and other nervous system cancers, which fell by 2.9% per year.

However, there has been an increase in new cases of leukemia (0.5% per year) and lymphoma (0.6%) between 2017 and 2021.

The most common cancers affecting children included leukemia, brain and other nervous system and lymphoma.

Among adolescents and young adults, new cancer diagnoses remained stable between 2017 and 2021.

The most common types of diseases between this group were female breast cancer, thyroid cancer and testicular cancer.

Siegel added, “the team’s access to cancer treatment is also reducing mortality, with approaches combined by surgeons, medical subs specialists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and nursing practitioners.”

New cases of cancer had fallen with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemia in 2020, returning to “expected levels” in 2021, the report said.

Because of this abnormality, the 2020 case data were analyzed separately and not included in the cancer trend analysis.
